Even Happy People can be very lonely by Tom Chapman
I'll be turning 60 in another year or so and I can safely say that I feel a little wiser as I get older. I am sure it comes in part from my experiences of being married for 30 years of my life, raising 2 families and 3 kids! You learn a lot about yourself and other people when you are married that long. But you also learn what you do and don't want in your life, which is why I am single now.
For example I want to be happy every day, which is why I typically am happy. I think it's a daily decision we make each day to be happy and that should be the case whether you are single or married! I also think happiness starts with having an attitude of gratitude! If you are not grateful for whatever God has given you now, then why should you think that you deserve more? God says, "He loves a thankful heart" and that's good enough for me! Don't look to other people to make you happy, it must come from within your own soul.
But even happy people can be very lonely! Take me for example. I have a good life. I have lived in beautiful South Florida for 36 years, love riding my motorcycle and going to the beaches, love spending time with my grown kids and one grand baby and I am grateful to have a good business, I am still athletic and healthy and I have no complaints! (Who would listen anyway?)
But I have been single now for 4 years and I don't really date much (don't worry, I'm still looking : ), therefore I am lonely a lot. It's not that I don't want to date someone special! It's just that for whatever reason it's hard to find her! So, I find myself lonely and at night especially! I ponder how to spend my time or where I might go to occupy my time. Yes, loneliness is never fun! But I also think it's one of those emotions that if you never felt it then you really can't have compassion on others who are lonely!
So I say live one day at a time and be grateful for it. Think about other important things in your life. Like what are your purposes in this life? The bible says we are all "a vapor in the wind!" So I am thinking about what are my purposes during this short visit? Think big! Think eternal and not just about being lonely all the time. You have a life to live and I doubt that you will be lonely for very long anyway! : )
